Books discussed include Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly, The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater, Serafina and the Black Cloak by Robert Beatty, and The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George.

There is still time to join our #lyricalkal in conjunction with The Crafty Toads podcast. Knit anything you like and connect it to song lyrics. The KAL runs until March 15, 2017. We both have threads for the KAL in our Ravelry groups.

Dogster pops in and out. I want to knit all the socks and sweaters.

February is my month for sewing as a secondary craft and I am making progress on my Heather Dress from Sew Over It.

Running is challenging with a busy schedule. Thanks for watching and LACES (Like and comment everyday, subscribe)!

Tome Time Episode 26: Rainbow Pizza

Welcome to Tome Time. We discuss books, knitting, sewing, and other crafty goodness. Knitting content begins at 27:55.

Books discussed include: Saturn Run b John Sandford and Ctein, Grumpy Cat and Pokey, Code by Charles Petzold, and Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly.

Join us for the Lyrical KAL with The Crafty Toads, running until March 15.

Finished Objects are the Country Cable Socks by Rachel Paulsel.  They are glorious! The pattern was given to me by Samantha of The Yarn Reader Podcast and the Miss Babs Sock Yarn was given to me by Jessie of the Purls Before Twine Pocast, so this pair is extra special. These socks are my January entry into the Bookend Knits Raven Cycle KAL.

Works in Progress include Hermione’s Everyday socks out of Toad Hollow Yarn in the Teeka’s Coat colorway, my Joker and the Thief shawl by Melanie Berg in Lolo Did It and Kniterature Yarns, a Bayside Pullover by Hannah Fettig in Twisted Owl Yarn in the Brothers in Blue colorway.

Tome Time Episode 27: A Little Party (Never Killed Nobody)

Welcome to Tome Time! We discuss reading, knitting, sewing, and running here every two weeks. Knitting content begins at 13:00.

Join us for the Lyrical KAL with The Crafty Toads, running until March 15.

Books discussed include: Code by Charles Petzold, Hidden Figures by Margot Lee Shetterly, and The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater. Join the Bookend Knits for a Raven Cycles Read-along/ Knit- along!

No Finished Objects this week! Works in Progress include Hermione’s Everyday socks out of Toad Hollow Yarn in the Teeka’s Coat colorway, my Joker and the Thief shawl by Melanie Berg in Lolo Did It and Kniterature Yarns, a Bayside Pullover by Hannah Fettig in Twisted Owl Yarn in the Brothers in Blue colorway, and some vanilla socks in Blue Moon Fiber Arts Silky Socks That Rock in the Flambeaux colorway.
I am solo this week as I show my knitting and talk about de-cluttering and fitting in ALL the crafts.  I have been tidying up my crafting supplies and realized that if I spend 20- 30 minutes each day on my ‘secondary’ crafts, I can get a lot done if I cycle through them by the month. February will be all about sewing, so stay tuned. Upcoming sewing will be a Sew Over It Heather Dress, some Ginger Jeans Leggings, and some other dress with big, fat roses.

Training: It has been difficult to run outside due to weather and time constraints, but I have been enjoying Yoga with Adriene on YouTube. I have decided to take the 12 hour option at The Beast for a Day in May.

Books: Shift by Hugh Howey, Glass Sword by Veronica Aveyard, Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke.

Finished Objects:  Song of the Sea Cowl by Louise Zass-Bangham out of Sweet Sparrow Yarns Nuthatch base in the Pure Reason colorway. This was for the Purls Before Twine Podcasts Song of the Sea KAL.

Surprise Stripes Knee Socks by Anna Johanna out of all my sock scraps.

Works in Progress: Lafitte Shawl by Denise Bell of Lost City Knits.  I plan on finishing the butterfly chart this week! I am entering this in Samantha’s Finish It Up KAL. Projects have to be finished by the end of the year.

Lorne’s Hat by Stephanie Pearl McPhee out of Briar Rose Fibers Sea Pearl.

Shortie Vanilla Socks out of sock scraps.

Cafe Au Lait Socks by Deb Buckingham out of my Blueberry Chick yarns coffee sock blank.

Dogster requests a rainbow and coffee knit bean toy.

Future Knitting: Country Cable Socks by Rachel Paulsel out of Knit Picks Felici in the Rainbow colorway. This pattern was given to me by Samantha of The Yarn Reader Podcast as a prize for her Queue-Along.

The Joker and The Thief by Melanie Berg out of the Bad Science Fiction mini set by Kniterature and some Lolo Did It yarn.

I want to knit a sweater, but I am making myself finish the Lafitte shawl first.

Sewing: I finished by 1940’s Empire Waist pants, but they are about 5 pounds too tight! I will sew some Ginger Flared Jeans by Closet Case Files and the Lucie Dress by Republic de Chiffon soon. Watch for a Solo Sewing Supplement about the Empire Waist Pants soon.

Training:  I took a week of from running to help my husband with his art festival booth, but I am back to my training plan now.  I will run a 10K race next weekend.

Thanks so much for watching. Please leave us comments, questions, and hello’s in the comments section or in the Ravelry group.

Tome Time Episode 18: No Stitches for You!

Welcome to Tome Time! Thanks for watching and subscribing. You can find me as Musingrunner on Ravelry, Twitter, The Fold Line, and Good Reads. I am Tometimereadingandknitting on Instagram.  Please join us in the Tome Time Ravelry group.

Thanks to Cheryl for saying that she would be interested in some sewing supplement videos.

Knitting content begins at 22:00.

Books: Bel Canto by Ann Patchett, The Yarn Harlot by Stephanie Pearl McPhee, The Giver and Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry, Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke.

No finished objects this week!

WIPS: Lafitte Shawl by Denise Bell of Lost City Knits in Lost City Oak Barn Merino Lace. I am on track to finish this by Thanksgiving. It is a Christmas gift for my mom. It is only about 4 years late.

Song of the Sea Cowl by Louise Zass-Bangham out of Sweet Sparrow Yarns Pure Reason colorway on the Nuthatch base. This is for the Purls Before Twine Song of the Sea KAL.

Surprise Stripes by Anna Johanna out of my sock scraps. I am almost done with these bad boys!

Cross Stitch – It’s a book mark that is a gift and therefore a secret until it is finished. I am on the back-stitching part now.

Sewing – Decades of Style 1940’s Empire Waist Trousers in a hounds-tooth stretch woven. Spoiler alert, since recording I have finished these and found that the fabric does not stretch QUITE enough! They are about 5 pounds too tight.

My next BIG project will be Ginger Flares by Closet Case Files in some black Cone Mills Denim that I bought from Zede’s Sewing Studio. I experienced beyond excellent customer service from Mallory and Zede, the owners. I found out about this denim by listening to their audio podcast, Sewing Out Loud.

Training: My St. Jude’s Hero training shirt came in the mail. It is that awkward time of year when I need to run longish on the weekends, but it is still really too hot for long runs.

Thanks for watching! Did you find the cheeseburger?

Tome Time Episode 17: Hugs Are Free

Can you spot the cheeseburger?

Knitting content begins at 28:18.

Huge thanks to Helen of the Crafty Toads Podcast and Crafty Toads NJ Etsy shop for being a great swap partner in Jeanette of the Bookish Stitcher’s book and yarn swap!!!

Books read: Wool by Hugh Howey, A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula Le Guin, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling and some guys, Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke, The Giver by Lois Lowry.

FO’s: Abigale Shawl by Rachel Paulsel of Night Owl Fibers in Dream in Color Smooshy with Cashmere in Hey Sunshine colorway.  This is an entry in Samantha from The Yarn Reader Podcast’s Queue Along. I plan on wearing it to Stitches, TX where I want to visit Rachel’s booth and get some Night Owl Fibers yarn and some Undead Yarn from Heidi.

WIP’s: Surprise Stripes Knee Socks by Anna Johanna out of my sock yarn scraps, Song of the Sea Cowl by Louise Zass-Bangham for the Purls Before Twine Song of the Sea Knit-along in Sweet Sparrow Yarns Nuthatch base in the Pure Reason colorway, Lafitte Shawl by Denise Bell of Lost City Knits out of Lost City Knits Oak Barn Merino Lace in red.

Cross Stitch: a bookmark for Helen that I could not finish before the mailing date of the book and yarn swap. I will send it to her when I am done.

Sewing: A major setback in the Decades of Style 1940’s Empire Waist Trousers when I sewed two backs together for one leg and two fronts together for the other leg.  My Frixion marking pens are heat soluble and my markings disappeared when I pressed my darts. You think the name Frixion would have given me a clue!

We are making stitch markers for the Stitches, TX stitch marker swap.  If you are coming and see us there HUGS ARE FREE!

Training: I am getting reading for the St. Jude Half Marathon in Memphis, TN, but in the meantime I will run a 10K for a sweet hoodie, and another half marathon as a test of fitness for Memphis.

Thanks for watching and LACES (Like and Comment Everyday, Subscribe)!
