Tome Time Episode 18: No Stitches for You!

Welcome to Tome Time! Thanks for watching and subscribing. You can find me as Musingrunner on Ravelry, Twitter, The Fold Line, and Good Reads. I am Tometimereadingandknitting on Instagram.  Please join us in the Tome Time Ravelry group.

Thanks to Cheryl for saying that she would be interested in some sewing supplement videos.

Knitting content begins at 22:00.

Books: Bel Canto by Ann Patchett, The Yarn Harlot by Stephanie Pearl McPhee, The Giver and Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry, Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke.

No finished objects this week!

WIPS: Lafitte Shawl by Denise Bell of Lost City Knits in Lost City Oak Barn Merino Lace. I am on track to finish this by Thanksgiving. It is a Christmas gift for my mom. It is only about 4 years late.

Song of the Sea Cowl by Louise Zass-Bangham out of Sweet Sparrow Yarns Pure Reason colorway on the Nuthatch base. This is for the Purls Before Twine Song of the Sea KAL.

Surprise Stripes by Anna Johanna out of my sock scraps. I am almost done with these bad boys!

Cross Stitch – It’s a book mark that is a gift and therefore a secret until it is finished. I am on the back-stitching part now.

Sewing – Decades of Style 1940’s Empire Waist Trousers in a hounds-tooth stretch woven. Spoiler alert, since recording I have finished these and found that the fabric does not stretch QUITE enough! They are about 5 pounds too tight.

My next BIG project will be Ginger Flares by Closet Case Files in some black Cone Mills Denim that I bought from Zede’s Sewing Studio. I experienced beyond excellent customer service from Mallory and Zede, the owners. I found out about this denim by listening to their audio podcast, Sewing Out Loud.

Training: My St. Jude’s Hero training shirt came in the mail. It is that awkward time of year when I need to run longish on the weekends, but it is still really too hot for long runs.

Thanks for watching! Did you find the cheeseburger?

Knitting content begins at 28:18.

Huge thanks to Helen of the Crafty Toads Podcast and Crafty Toads NJ Etsy shop for being a great swap partner in Jeanette of the Bookish Stitcher’s book and yarn swap!!!

Books read: Wool by Hugh Howey, A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula Le Guin, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling and some guys, Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke, The Giver by Lois Lowry.

FO’s: Abigale Shawl by Rachel Paulsel of Night Owl Fibers in Dream in Color Smooshy with Cashmere in Hey Sunshine colorway.  This is an entry in Samantha from The Yarn Reader Podcast’s Queue Along. I plan on wearing it to Stitches, TX where I want to visit Rachel’s booth and get some Night Owl Fibers yarn and some Undead Yarn from Heidi.

WIP’s: Surprise Stripes Knee Socks by Anna Johanna out of my sock yarn scraps, Song of the Sea Cowl by Louise Zass-Bangham for the Purls Before Twine Song of the Sea Knit-along in Sweet Sparrow Yarns Nuthatch base in the Pure Reason colorway, Lafitte Shawl by Denise Bell of Lost City Knits out of Lost City Knits Oak Barn Merino Lace in red.

Cross Stitch: a bookmark for Helen that I could not finish before the mailing date of the book and yarn swap. I will send it to her when I am done.

Sewing: A major setback in the Decades of Style 1940’s Empire Waist Trousers when I sewed two backs together for one leg and two fronts together for the other leg.  My Frixion marking pens are heat soluble and my markings disappeared when I pressed my darts. You think the name Frixion would have given me a clue!

We are making stitch markers for the Stitches, TX stitch marker swap.  If you are coming and see us there HUGS ARE FREE!

Training: I am getting reading for the St. Jude Half Marathon in Memphis, TN, but in the meantime I will run a 10K for a sweet hoodie, and another half marathon as a test of fitness for Memphis.
