Work In Progress – Silk Throw Pillows

My friend P grew up all over the world due to her father’s job. When she found these oriental silks in her closet, she remembered that they actually came from Asia many years ago and thought it was time for them to see the light of day. The pink silk is to be made into pillow covers for sister, and the brown is for me! I just happen to have some brown polyester pillow covers on my couch that have seen better days. I think that I can remove the zippers from the old covers and reuse them on the new ones. This will be my sewing project over the long Easter weekend.  Happy sewing!

School has been taking up all of my time lately, so when Louise announced the 100g swap on her Caithness Craft Collective podcast it seemed like a nice treat. I had a nice time putting together a package for my swap partner, Sarah. I sent her some Yarn Love Elizabeth Bennet sock yarn in the Indigo Bunting colorway. I didn’t take a photo before I sent it, but you can see hers here. She has never been to Louisiana, so I included some local color, too. I really had so much fun getting her package together that I kind of forgot that I would get a package from her, too!

She sent Cascade Heritage Handpaints in color 9960 (blues, browns, grays) that is almost the exact color of a Miss Babs skein that I have had my eye on. She also sent some local magazines, a cool tree bark pencil, some postcards, and a lovely note. I have had fun messaging her on Ravelry and feel like I have made another online, knitting friend. Happy knitting.

Work in Progress – Loasa Lateritia Cowl

The current work in progress that is getting most of my knitting attention is the Loasa Lateritia Cowl by Hunter Hammersen from her book, The Knitter’s Curiosity Cabinet. This cowl is for a co-worker who is working in my classroom for half of each school day. She is great with the students and a good friend, too.  The yarn is from String Theory Yarns. It is their Seri 100% silk base in the Iris colorway. Once the cowl is done, I will have enough yarn left for a Bonny from Tin Can Knits for myself. Win-win! Happy knitting. 029

Finished Friday – Hogwart’s Express

Who can knit owls? I can, that’s who! The Hogwart’s Express is done, except for weaving in ends and a gentle blocking of the tips. The owls were fun to knit, and the whole piece went quickly. Everything else that I was working on was boring me, so this project helped to get me excited about knitting again. Now, I have to start a scarf for my teacher’s helper, but it looks pretty quick and easy. Happy knitting!

WIP Wednesday – Jaywalker Socks

Hi! Work has been my priority for the past few weeks, but we are in the home stretch now toward summer. I have started the Jaywalker socks by Grumperina using Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks that Rock Lightweight. Unfortunately I cannot remember the colorway name, but it reminds me of a sunset. A very cheerful sunset!  Happy knitting. 010 011
